Indigo-Clean este o tehnologie care foloseste lumina de culoare indigo pentru a distruge bacteriile dintr-o incapere.
Bacterille si infectiile nosocomiale sunt o problema cu care se confrunta spitalele de peste tot din lume. In SUA, Center for Control Disease a raportat ca 1 din 25 de persoane internate preiau bacterii nosocomiale. In Romania situatia este mult mai rea.
Dezinfectia la anumite intervale de timp nu este o solutie eficienta, bacteriile raspandindu-se extrem de repede.
O cauza majora a raspandirii bacteriilor este lantul pacient-mediu inconjurator-pacient: daca un pacient (sau un insotitor) vine in spital cu o bacterie, aceasta este rapid preluata de mediul inconjurator si trece mai departe la un alt pacient.
Pentru a rupe acest lant, dar si pentru a evita raspandirea rapida a bacteriilor, cercetatorii din Scotia au gasit o solutie care “dezinfecteaza” continuu: un bec care emite lumina la o anumita frecventa (cu o lungime de unda de 405nm) care, in contact cu bacteria, devine letala.
Bacteriile contin molecule de porfirina care sunt de fapt tinta undelor de lumina. In contact cu lumina, aceste molecule produc o reactie chimica letala numita Reactive Oxigen Species (ROS) in interiorul celulei.
ROS inactiveaza bacteria, prevenind astfel raspandirea ei.
Bacteriile, chiar si cele periculoase precum stafilococul auriu sunt distruse in doar cateva secunde.
Astfel de tehnologii au mai fost propuse si in trecut. Ce aduce nou Indigo-Clean este “dezinfectia” in mod continuu: fiind vorba de lumina indigo, care se gaseste in spectrul vizibil, aceasta nu afecteaza omul si atunci poate fi folosita 24/7.
Mai mult decat atat, lumina indigo omoara bacteriile de pe suprafete dar si cele din aer.
Testele clinice realizate pana acum au demonstrat ca Indigo-Clean a redus bacteriile dintr-o incapere cu 70%.
Indigo-Clean uses an indigo light-based technology to kill bacteria in a specific environment (walls, ceilings, furniture and other surfaces, but also the air within certain enclosed areas such as hospital rooms).
Bacteria and nosocomial infections are a common issue in almost every hospital in the world. In the USA, the Center for Control Disease reported 1 out of every 25 persons hospitalized, were infected with nosocomial bacteria. In Romania, the situation is even worse.
Currently, disinfections of sensitive areas (e.g. in hospitals) are conducted at specific time intervals, being an inefficient solution as bacteria can spread very quickly within these intervals.
A major cause of the spreading of bacteria in hospitals, is the patient- environment-patient chain: when a patient (or any other visitor of the hospital) enters with certain bacteria, these are quickly co-opted by the environment after which another patient would catch those bacteria from that same environment. This would usually take place in the time period between “disinfection sessions”.
To break this chain, caused in large part by the time between each “disinfection session”, researchers from Scotland have found a solution that “disinfects” continuously: a light bulb which emits light at a certain frequency (with a wave length of 405 nm) and which, in contact with bacteria, becomes lethal to those bacteria.
Bacteria contain molecules called porfyrhyns, which are actually the target of these light waves.
Porphyryns, which get in contact with indigo light, produce a lethal chemical reaction called Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) inside the cell.
ROS de-activates the bacteria, preventing it from re-populationg the space.
Bacteria, even the most harmful ones, such as staphylococcus aureus, are killed in few minutes.
The innovative part of Indigo-Clean is the continuous “disinfection”: the indigo light, being in the visible spectrum, is not harmful for people and can be used 24/7.
In summary: the Indigo-Clean kills bacteria in the air and on surfaces, provides continuous protection, and is harmless for human beings. Lastly, clinical trials have already proven that Indigo-Clean is able to reduce bacteria in a closed environment (such as a hospital room) with 70%.
